Tasveer Ghar: A Digital Archive of South Asian Popular Visual Culture

Dr. Stephen Inglis is an anthropologist and art historian who specialises in the artistic traditions of India. Along with his work with artisan communities, he has traced the biographies of popular artists in 20th century South India.  His “Calendar Art: Popular Painting of India” (1983) at the University of British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology was probably the first exhibition on this topic. Inglis was for over 25 years a curator and Director-General of Research and Collections at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. He is currently Adjunct Research Professor of Art History at Carleton University in Ottawa.
